Football Finalists!

17th Nov 2017
  1. Fantastic news from our football team who qualified yesterday for the finals of the Ballymena & District Primary Schools' 7-a-side tournament. As defending champions, we hoped to have a better performance than in October's Owen Daley competition and that's what happened!

Our first game was a closely contested 0 - 0 draw with Ballykeel, where the addition of Matthew to our previous squad gave us a much more solid defence. With this increased confidence our midfield and forwards had more purpose to their attacks and we achieved a comfortable victory over Broughshane. Our next match against Carniny was always going to be tough, but we competed well and it took two wonder strikes to break the deadlock (the only goals we conceded in the whole event). Knowing how significant goal difference could prove, we battled to the end keeping good possession and Samuel made a great save to ensure no further damage occurred. This meant that any win in our final match against St Colmcille's would see us edge into second place ahead of Ballykeel, on goal difference. Although we dominated possession a breakthrough was proving elusive, until Kenzie raced clear inside the final two minutes to slot home and send the team into rapture!

We will join Carniny, Diamond and Fourtowns in the finals which will probably be played during February. So, well done for qualifying and good luck when we attempt to defend our title next term.

Squad: Samuel, Matthew, Kaiden, Kyal, Brandon, Josh, Kenzie, Ben Mc, Bobby and Ben P.
