ECO Day!

13th Apr 2018

On Friday 13th April we had a whole school Eco Day! Everyone in the school was involved all day - we had talks from Barry Tapster the Eco Coordinator from Mid & East Antrim Council, a visit from the ‘Arc 21’ recycling bus along with lots of classroom and outdoor activities happening. Classes all enjoyed Nature walks hosted by the Eco Committee showing all the pupils our new Hedgehog Hotel, our pond, our bug farm and our new fruit trees where we are hoping to see apples, cherries and raspberries growing soon! We also saw the start of our activity trail being made out of old tyres, flowers planted into our classroom door pots and old Wellington boots, some painting started, litter collected all along with our fantastic wooden garden boxes at the front of the school being made into ‘themed’ gardens! This year our P3s also made 2 Scarecrows so that the birds won’t eat our gardens! Please have a look at each of the ‘Class’ website pages for lots more photos!

A big thank you to Mrs McCullagh and Charlotte for organising and managing the day - what a great job they did!

We also aim within the next couple of weeks to plant our 400 marigolds (1 planted and grown by each pupil) into the shape of the number 50 to conclude our 50th celebrations!

Also - we want to thank ‘Ben Vista’ Garden Centre in Ahoghill who have supported our Eco Day and provided each family with a 10% off discount card to use each time they make a purchase from now until December 2018!

Next time you are visiting our school look over by the painted wall and you will see all the classes fantastic work!
