Remembrance Day in Primary 5WS

12th Nov 2021

Yesterday, the 11th November, was Remembrance Day.

In class we learned all about this very special day. We discussed why the poppy was used to remember the brave soldiers who have fallen in war, fighting for our country, and also some of the different ways in which we mark the occasion around the country.

When we heard about the two minutes silence taking place at 11 o’clock we asked Miss Service if we could all take part. We soon discovered that two minutes is a very long time when you’re being quiet!

To complete our Remembrance Day learning we read and discussed the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae. Our final activity was to draw some poppies on top of a copy of this poem. Miss Service showed us how to use shading to make the poppies seem more alive.

Have a look at our Remembrance Day display in the photos that we’ve included. We’re all extremely proud if it!
