P7AS Floating Activity

3rd Apr 2022

As part of our Titanic topic, we have been looking at an object’s ability to float.  Why do some objects float while others don’t?  We learned about density and about how the weight and the volume of an object will affect its density, therefore its ability to float, even if it is made of a heavy material like steel.

We predicted whether a ball of plasticine would float or sink. After testing it and finding that it sank, we had to work out how to make the plasticine float.  We remodelled and tested our new shapes.  We then counted how many marbles our models could hold before they sank.

We persisted well with this task; some of us taking time to remodel time and time again to get our models to float.  ðŸš¢
