P7BC develop their Instructional Writing
This week during literacy P7BC worked on developing an understanding of instructional writing.
They brought in some instructions they found at home. These included recipes, game board instructions and instructions for 'how to build certain items'.
In their groups they then decided on what the purpose of instructions are, the structure it should take and the various language features that are necessary.
Each set of instructions should have a goal, materials\equipment and sequenced steps in chronological order. Instructional writing should have imperative “bossy” verbs.
Take a listen to some of our students reading out their instructions for making a volcanic eruption. The detail given is terrific! Can you spot some of the key features?
