Football Congratulations ⚽️ North Ballymena Qualifying Day 2 ⚽️

1st Dec 2023

Thursday saw the Boy’s Football Team travel to Carniny PS for the second day of the North Ballymena Qualifying Tournament, with the top 2 teams going through to the finals day in 2024.

We started the day with 6 points from our previous day, needing to pick up some wins today to be in with a chance of qualifying.

Our first game was against Harryville PS, a game in which saw some fantastic played football and over the 10 minutes saw numerous chances to score. Unfortunately, we came up against a great goal keeper and the frame of the goal that kept us out, meaning we drew 0-0 in our first game.

Going into our second game we had 7 points and we came up against a Carniny side who already had 11 points from 5 games (this being their last game). We defended excellently as a team and worked hard, the team performance paid off with a goal from Josh. We held on at the end with a couple of saves from Jack and some defensive clearances to win 1 nil taking us to 10 points.

Our final game was against Dunclug PS. If we were to qualify, we needed to win as a draw meant that we finished level with Carniny who had a better goal difference than us. Again we started the game strong and had a couple of chances that just wouldn’t go in for us. Eventually we managed to get past the Dunclug keeper and took the lead 1 nil through Josh. James added a second not long after with some great team play and a calm finish.

We finished the day on 13 points meaning we finished 2nd behind Ballykeel PS (15 points) and qualified for the finals day in the new year.

This is an excellent achievement for the school and well deserved after 6 tough games in which we played some super football and worked extremely hard as a team.

We are looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings for the school sports teams, we have; a finals day, the Senior Cup, 5 a-side tournament, the Girl’s Football Tournament, a girl’s Netball Tournament and a new football pitch on our school grounds.
