⚽️ 5 a-side Football Tournament ⚽️

1st Mar 2024

Yesterday our School Team travelled to Antrim Forum to compete in the Ballymena Schools 5 a-side Tournament. With an impressive number of teams this year it made for a fantastic day of football and short, sharp matches.

Our day started out well, with a 2-1 win over Portglenone (goals from James and Riley). We continued with a 0-0 draw against eventually group winners Ballykeel, both teams having chances to win.
We followed these results up with 2 more wins against Diamond (2-0 - scorers; Josh and James) and Moorfields (1-0 - scorer; Riley). This put us joint top of the group with Ballykeel PS.
Our next game was against Broughshane where we were held to a 0-0 draw due to a fantastic goalkeeping display from the Broughshane keeper. We then bounced back with an emphatic 5-0 win over Kirkinriola (Goals from - James x2, Levi, Jake and Josh).
Going into our game against Gracehill, we knew it was a just win if we were going to qualify 2nd in the group and progress to the Semi-Finals. The game couldn’t have been closer with both teams having chances but being kept out by the woodwork, we eventually took a 1-0 lead through a penalty from Riley only to be clawed back to 1-1 with the last kick of the game. This draw meant that we needed Gracehill to drop points in their last game which unfortunately ended up not the case.
We went into our last game against Dunclug PS knowing we couldn’t qualify, but we played some good football and fought hard for a win. Unfortunately we couldn’t end on a high as Dunclug were the better team and won 2-1 due to an excellent shot from range.

The team played some great football and scored some wonderful goals (12 in total over 8 games).

Well done to all teams involved and to everyone who organised and refereed, it was a fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed.

We are looking forward to our Senior Cup Semi-Final in April ⚽️
